2019 Summer Intern Spotlight, Part 1

Each summer, Pocket Nurse likes to highlight our hard-working interns so that our audience and their co-workers can get to know them better. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Sales Intern Amanda Larkin, Accounting Assistant Intern Zackary Cipolla, and Marketing Intern Abbey Valentine.
Amanda Larkin, Sales Intern
Amanda is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh studying health services with a concentration in management and certificate in community health assessment. She has a background in marketing, sales, and nursing as a nursing assistant.
Amanda has had a passion for healthcare for as long as she can remember. As a nursing assistant, she worked one on one with patients and experienced what it’s like to provide direct care. The position she’s in now is the perfect fusion of her passion for healthcare, her desire to build long-term relationships with educators and healthcare providers, and her business skills.
During her time at Pocket Nurse so far, Amanda has been inspired by the words of Regional Territory Manager at Pocket Nurse, Michael Anderson, who says, “Never be satisfied with the status quo; always go the extra mile. Demand attention to details from yourself and your coworkers.”
In addition to her internship with Pocket Nurse and her studies, Amanda is the manager of the Pitt Women’s Basketball Team. Outside of school and work, Amanda enjoys exercise, shopping, and spending time with her family and pets; she has three dogs, two cats, and a bird.
Zackary Cipolla, Accounting Assistant Intern
Zackary is a senior at Slippery Rock University majoring in finance. His professional background includes hospitality and private investment portfolio management.
Zackary enjoys finance and accounting because they are essential to every business and individual. He chose his career path because it is secure, and he recognizes the importance of well-managed finances, both for business and for an individual’s everyday life.
Of his internship experience at Pocket Nurse so far, Zackary says, “the company and the people within it have been nothing but excellent thus far, and I feel like my work and what I’m learning is actually valuable.”
Zackary is an All-PA Academic Recipient, the President of Rock Solid Investments, and a member of Delta Mu Delta honor society. Outside of school and work, Zackary enjoys all things tech; video games and computer building in particular. He is also passionate about investing and spends a lot of time researching stock market updates and emerging trends. He also loves to spend time with his two dogs: a four-pound Chihuahua and a 115-pound Rottweiler.
Abbey Valentine, Marketing Intern
Abbey is a senior at Edinboro University studying Graphic and Interactive Design. She has a background in print media design and interactive design; creating motion graphics and building responsive websites using HTML and CSS language.
She has always had a passion for designing, inside and outside the classroom. From a young age she enjoyed brainstorming conceptual ideas and turning them into design projects. In 2016, Abbey created an educational card game for children and was featured in a documentary on WQED titled, “Remake Learning” as a young innovator in Pittsburgh.
At Pocket Nurse, Abbey is putting her graphic design experience to work creating brand-specific graphics and working with the rest of the department on strategic campaigns. Of her experience so far, Abbey says, “Pocket Nurse provides a great work environment. I am learning through hands-on projects that allow me to collaborate with the marketing team and learn how to work within a business.”
Outside of school and work, you can find Abbey spending time with her family and in the outdoors biking, hiking, swimming, and shooting hoops.
